About Science in the Suburbs


Science in the Suburbs brings all the excitement of Science in the City at the Australian Museum to schools in regional Sydney.

An initiative of the Australian Museum with Executive Partner the University of Sydney, since 2006 Science in the Suburbs programs have been offering activities for primary and secondary students in conjunction with local science and education instiutions.

Science in the Suburbs events  take two forms:

  •  Two Day Events program a series of activities toincluding talks, workshops, hands-on experiences and demonstrations, and science shows illustrating key scientific principles. With one day of programming tailored to high school students and another for primary schools these events aim to inspire students with the science that surrounds them every day and extend and support classroom teaching.

  • One Day Events are tailored specifically to students studying Stages 5 and 6 of the science syllbus these events aim to put local students in the labs with local scientists to provide practical experinece in an area of speclaity and provide them wiht insight into how a career in science might look from the inside.

Science in the Suburbs events have been held in Cronulla, Cumberland, Sydney Olympic Park, Hawkesbury, Westmead, Londonderry and Terry Hills.
