The word polymer can be broken into ‘poly’ meaning many and ‘mer’ meaning pieces. Polymers are very large molecules made up of many small parts coming together or crosslinking. There are natural polymers such as skin, hair, cotton and wool. Many are man made such as plastics, glues, and rubber. These giant molecules are very useful and each can have very different and important properties. In this workshop you will be introduced to some concepts of polymer chemistry. You will have a chance to become scientists and make your very own polymer, and test the properties of some well known household polymers.
