Science in the Suburbs returns to Westmead in 2010!
Your Stage 6 Chemistry and Biology students start off the day of discovery with an educational talk covering the fundamentals of DNA, cloning techniques and transgenic animals, with recent examples of human diseases.
Students will then be taken on a tour of the institute, a behind the scenes look at the cleaning and preparation areas, laboratories and various pieces of equipment used by scientists. Finish the session with a hands-on experiment to extract DNA from onions.
Science in the Suburbs at Westmead is hosted by the Children's Medical Research Institute and brought to you by Science in the City Executive Partners the Australian Museum and the University of Sydney, and Outreach Partner Charles Sturt University.
