Science in the Suburbs celebrates the many contributions science makes to society. Continuing on from the success of Science in the City at the Australian Museum, Science in the Suburbs is an outreach program to encourage participation in science activities. It provides students with a fantastic opportunity to get involved in science which surrounds them everyday and see the huge variety of career opportunities in science, engineering, technology and innovation.
Science in the Suburbs events have been held since 2004 and cater for schools in the Sydney metropolitan region. Every Science in the Suburbs event includes talks, shows, workshops and activities. Each program is specifically tailored to include presenters from local scientific organisations, universities and community groups in the local area.
Based on the highly popular Science in the City Expo, the Science in the Suburbs Expo will showcase science and technology from the local area. Every student attending Science in the Suburbs will have the opportunity to spend time in the Expo. Entry to the expo is free (after general entry) however bookings are essential.
Other Science in the Suburbs activities include a series of talks and shows designed to inspire and amaze audiences. Plus there are hands-on workshops for students to discover science and technology. Bookings are essential for these activities, and some may incur an additional cost.
